Frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about shipping, customs clearance, export packing and exhibition logistics in Dubai and the UAE.

Customs

Do you clear both imports and exports?

Yes. We process customs documents for imports and exports.

Can you get export documents attested and legalized?

Yes. We arrange attestation and legalization whenever an export requires it.

Do you handle port and customs fees?

Yes. We handle every clearance formality, including port and customs fees and other official charges.

What documents do I need for customs clearance in Dubai?

Usually the commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin, the air waybill, bill of lading or truck waybill, and the importer's customs code and trade license, plus any permit the goods need. Our guide lists them by mode.

How much is customs duty in Dubai?

Most goods pay 5% customs duty on their CIF value, plus 5% import VAT. Commercial invoices for imports of AED 10,000 or more also need Ministry of Foreign Affairs attestation, at AED 150 per invoice. Port and handling charges depend on the shipment.

How long does customs clearance take in Dubai?

It depends on the documents and the goods. Complete documents for goods that need no extra permit clear fastest; permits from authorities such as Dubai Municipality or MOCCAE add time. We give you a realistic timeline when we review your documents.

Exhibitions

Can you store our empty cases during the show?

Yes. We remove and store empty cases during the event and bring them back to your stand at close.

Do you handle re-export after the event?

Yes. We process re-export documentation and duty refund applications.

Will someone from Solar Base be on site?

Yes. Our representative supervises on site, with labor and 3-ton forklifts available.

Do I need an ATA Carnet for a show in Dubai?

Not always. The UAE has accepted ATA Carnets since 2011, issued by Dubai Chambers, and they make customs simpler. Without one, exhibits enter on temporary admission against a guarantee for the 5% duty and VAT, which is refunded after the goods are re-exported.

ATA Carnet or temporary admission?

Are giveaways and brochures dutiable at UAE shows?

Yes. Giveaways, brochures, printed matter and food samples pay duty as final imports and need a real value on the invoice; 'No Commercial Value' is not accepted.

When do exhibits need to arrive?

Each show sets its own deadlines in its shipping manual. As a guide, cargo usually needs to reach the port, airport or land border about two weeks before move-in.

Packing

Do you make the boxes and crates yourselves?

Yes. We manufacture wooden and carton boxes in-house.

How do you check packing quality?

Every job goes through stringent quality checks, from sample approval to final dispatch.

Should I use a crate, a wooden box, a skid or a pallet?

It depends on the cargo, the mode and the route. Pallets suit cartons, skids suit heavy machinery with a solid base, open crates protect large items while keeping weight down, and closed wooden boxes give full protection for fragile, high-value or sea-bound cargo. Our guide compares them, or we can advise on your shipment.

What markings go on an export crate?

Standard handling symbols such as this way up, fragile, keep dry, center of gravity and sling points (ISO 780), plus case marks showing the consignee, case number, gross and net weight and dimensions.

Do you handle both air imports and exports?

Yes. We handle import and export air freight to and from Dubai, with global coverage through our partner network.

Can you pack my cargo for air freight?

Yes. We make wooden and carton boxes in-house and offer crate packing, palletization, skid packing and stretch wrapping.

Do you clear customs for air shipments?

Yes. Our customs team processes import and export documents, liaises with dnata and handles port, customs and other official charges.

How can I track my shipment?

Use the Track shipment link on our website, or contact our team for an update.

What is the difference between FCL and LCL?

With FCL (full container load) you have a container to yourself. With LCL (less-than-container load) you share container space with other shippers, which suits smaller volumes. We handle both.

Can you store my cargo before or after shipping?

Yes. Our warehouse in Cargo Village offers storage, cross-docking and order handling, with dispatch by air, road and sea.

Do you collect the delivery order from the shipping line?

Yes. Collecting delivery orders and liaising with shipping lines is part of our customs clearance service.
